13 Jërëjëf

All the dishes in Senegal are basically spicy. But they are tasty!

Usually, the dinner time is very late.

On the first day of my homestay, I had dinner at 10PM.

After that, I have had dinner around 9:30PM to 10PM every day.

I always get very hungry until the dinner starts.

I heard that other peers' homestay families also have late dinner as I do.

I was surprised that some families spend three hours to cook dinner.

What a surprise, it is very early today, 8:30PM!

I ask to a family member "Why it is so early today?"

He said, "It's going to prepare dinner with a long time tonight, it would be after 10PM. You have school tomorrow, so eat this first and go to bed earlier."

I answered, jërëjëf.

In the local language "Wolof", a word " jërëjëf " means "thank you."

Jërëjëf pronounces like Jul juf.

By the way, I have often used the word "thank you" since I became a teacher.

Even though there are few words I can say in Wolof, I am sure that my gratitude is conveyed.

Jërëjëf

There are a bit many dots, but the spelling is like as I wrote.

Jërëjëf
