When I come home from the language school, some of family members are always talking outside. I always play with the kids.
A 14-year-old boy was interested in my iPod, so I played some J-pop music for him and he started dancing by himself.
There are elementary school children in the homestay family, and they are my playmates. They are on summer vacation and are staying at the same house because of relatives.
I taught them "Kendama", which is a traditional toy in Japan. Children were able to success one of typical technique "Mawashiken" on the following day.
A boy was surprised at his own technique and started laughing out loudly!
Here is a game the children were playing today!
In the game, a dice is used to go forward each small disk.
Here's the rules.
We have to make 6 with dice to start first, and have to make exactly the same number at the end to go to the goal.
If I stop on the someone's disk, I can get his or her disk.
Even though I didn't understand the rules at all, the kids taught me as we played.
I won completely!
In Senegal, balls for baseball are not sold, but I found soccer balls, basketballs, and tennis balls. I bought tennis balls to play with my children.
4 balls cost 5,000 FCFA. ($1,000)
I played catch with them by bare hands.
I found they had no experience in "throwing" and "catching" balls. Although they tried to catch the ball, they couldn't catch it at all at the beginning.
While teaching them how to throw and catch, I said,
"Let's keep playing catch 10 times with no bounces."
They were getting better little by little, but 7 times was the limit.
It had been about an hour,
I suggested, "Let's do the last two tries!"
Then, when it was finally the last time, I shouted, "Last!!"
Surprisingly, we achieved 10 times for the first time.
The kids said to want to continue, as a result, we achieved 19 times in a row.
The children looked so happy to have achieved one object with the concentration.
A tennis ball brought made me smile.
語学学校から私が帰ってくると、家族の誰かしらが外で話をしています。
そして、子供たちと遊びます。
14歳男子が私のiPodに興味を示したので、J-POPを聴かせたらノリノリで1人で踊り始めました。
ホームステイ先には小学生の子供たちがいて、もっぱらの遊び相手になっています。
バカンス（夏休み）中で、泊まりにきている親戚の小学生。
けん玉の「まわしとめけん」を教えたら、次の日には子供たちはできました。
一人の男の子はできた自分に驚いて大爆笑！
今日子供たちがしていた遊びはコレ！
サイコロを振って、進んで行くゲーム。
最初に6を出さないとスタートできなくて、
最後はちょうどの目を出さないと上がれない。
途中で他の人の上にピタッと止まると、相手のおはじきをもらえる。
これがルール。
言葉が分からなくても子供たちはやりながら教えてくれました。
私がボロ勝ちしました。
セネガルでは野球ボールが売っていなく、サッカーボール、バスケットボール、テニスボールなどなら買うことができます。
テニスボールを子供たちと遊ぶために買いました。
4つで5000フラン（1000円）です。
子供たちと素手でキャッチボールしました。
「投げる」「捕る」経験がないから、飛んでくるボールに抱きつくように捕ろうとします。全然捕ることができません。
投げ方と捕り方を教えながら、
「10回ノーバウンドで続けよう。」と言いました。
だんだんうまくなってきたけど、７回が限界でした。
1時間くらい経ったので、
「ラスト2回で！」と提案しました。
最後になり、「ラストッ！」と叫びました。
なんと、初めて10回達成！
「続けたい！」と子供たちが言うので、続けると19回連続で達成できました。
集中力で１つ壁を乗りこえた子供たちはキラキラしていました。
ボール１つで笑顔になれました。
