"Man jangalekat laa." means "I am a teacher." in Wolof, which is the local language in Senegal.

This is a handmade ruler. I made it by cutting a notebook. In the town, I couldn't find rulers in shops.
I taught maths for 15 minutes in a small lesson to children who live in near school.
It was only for 15 minutes, but I had to speak only Wolof words, so I spent lots of time to prepare for the 15 minutes.
Here was the flow of the preparation of the maths lesson.
I thought about the flow of the lesson in Japanese.

I translated Japanese content into French.
↓
I translated French content into Wolof.
It took hours because I worked like a translater!
I was thinking, "I wonder how Senegalese children react to my lesson."
Four children between 11 and 13 years old took my lesson of maths, but the content was for 7-year-old children.
I was really happy that they studied seriously.
I could gain the first experience as a volunteer of the maths teacher.
I found this time about the difficulties for the preparation to do lessons in Senegal.
No copy machines.
No papers.
No rulers.
In class,
The Wolof language doesn't come out from my mouth smoothly yet.
I had already imagined that fact before coming here, but it was so difficult.
I have to think about what to help I can do to the children in this environment with limited tools.
I felt this thing.
I enjoyed myself in the lesson, but, at the same time, I could see many issues I have to solve.
In Japan, I was a teacher.
In Senegal, I am a volunteer.
When I lived in Japan, I had been thinking, "What can I do without the position of teacher?"
For the Senegalese children, I am a just one Japanese who appeared out all of a sudden. They have no idea about my experience in Japan.
I will walk my way in such a situation.
Mango trees are planted at school and home.
At the homestay house, children are climbing the trees, taking and eating mangos.
At school, I can get a whole mango for each as the dessert after lunch.
I cut it with a knife, after that I begin to bite it!
They are so delicious. There are abundant trees in fruit. But I heard this is only seasoning thing, mangos will be gone.
Now it is the time the best season to eat mangos!
I'm feeling luxury to be able to eat mangos for free.

今日語学学校では、子供たちに、15分間の算数の授業をしました。
たった15分でしたが、全てウォロフ語を使わなくてはいけないので、15分のための準備に何時間もかかりました。
算数の授業の準備は、
授業の流れを日本語で考える。
↓
日本語をフランス語になおす。
↓
フランス語をウォロフ語になおす。
という言葉のリレーみたいな感じでやりました。

とずっと考えていました。
７歳対象のたし算の授業を、11歳〜13歳の子供たち４人が私の授業を受けてくれました。真剣に取り組んでくれたことが何よりうれしかったです。
セネガルに来て初めてボランティアの経験を積むことができました。
準備では、コピー機がない。紙がない。定規がない。
授業では、ウォロフ語が私の口からスラスラ出てこない。
そんなことは重々承知で来ましたが、やはり難しい。
モノが限られた環境で、子供たちに向けてどんなことができるのかこれから試していきます。
楽しく授業できた。
でも、課題は無数に存在している。
そんな感想です。
日本では、私は小学校教員でした。
セネガルでは、私は「ボランティア」です。
前から、
（先生という肩書きがないなら、俺に何ができるのか？）
と考えていました。
セネガルの子供たちにとって、私はいきなり現れた１人の日本人。
私の日本での経験なんか相手は知らない。
そんな中の勝負になります。
学校や家には、マンゴーの木が植えられています。
ホームステイの家では子供が木登りをして、とってかぶりついています。
学校では、食後のデザートで、マンゴーが丸々でます。１人１個で、ナイフで切って、かぶりつきます。
うまくてたらふく食べていますが、旬が過ぎるとなくなるそうです。
今が旬。
ただで食べられるマンゴーってぜいたくですわ。
