The official language in Senegal is French.
French bread is the standard breakfast here.
There are many shops selling French bread with eggs, fish, potatoes, sauces, mayonnaise, etc. They are usually sold outside.
There was a bakery, so I bought some bread.
The store I went to had only sweet bread.
In Senegal, the sense of sweet is totally different from Japan.
In Japan, I would put a sugar stick in a cup of coffee at most,
But In Senegal, five or six sugar cubes are added by Senegalese!
There is a typical tea called "Ataya" that Senegalese drink every day.
It is made by boiling tea leaves in a small pot with about 10 sugar cubes. Or, a large scoop of sugar in a bag is thrown in! This is anyway lots of sugar!
And we drink it in a small cup like a shot glass.
It is the most sweet drink I've ever drunk. I would never find such a sweet drink in Japan. At the same time, the tea has a strong bitter taste.
I drink it and add sugar on again today.
朝ご飯はフランスパンが定番です。
フランスパンに、卵、魚、ポテト、ソース、マヨネーズなどをはさんで売っている露店がたくさんあります。
パン屋があったので、買ってみました。
行った店では、甘い系のパンしかありませんでした。
そして、セネガルでは「甘い」に対する感覚が、日本と全然違います。
カップ1杯のコーヒーに、
日本だったらシュガースティックを1本入れるところ、
セネガルだと角砂糖を5,6個投入！
「アタヤ」といってセネガル人なら毎日飲むお茶があります。
小さなポットで、茶葉をグツグツと煮て作るのですが、これには角砂糖を10個ほど投入！
または、袋に入った砂糖を大量にすくって投入！
ショットグラスみたいな小さなカップで飲みます。
日本でこんなに甘い飲み物ないだろうという甘さ。
合わせて、強い苦みがあるお茶です。
今日も、糖質オン。
