There is a drum in front of my house, which is placed for throwing away garbage.
It is rare to find such a trash can, but It happen to be one in front of my house.
There are only a few places in the town where drums are placed.

そもそも、こういったゴミ箱が置かれていること自体レアなのですが、私の家の前にはたまたまありました。
ドラム缶は、この町の中でも数ヶ所しか置かれていません。
家の前に置かれていたのですが、最近撤去されてしまいました。
撤去の理由は、毎日誰かにドラム缶を倒されて、ゴミが散らかっていたせいと思われます。
私は何回かこのドラム缶を起こし直していたから分かりますが、このドラム缶は相当重く、普通だったら倒れない重さです。
倒れている理由は、ずばり、子供たちがゴミを漁っているのです。
私が見かけた時は、ペットボトルを集めていました。
セネガル人は外にゴミを捨てる習慣があります。

朝、袋に入れて捨てたものが、帰って来た時には毎回袋が破られて中身が出されているのです。
正直、ゴミを漁られていい気持ちにはなりません。
その背景には、貧困問題があるからだと感じます。

何か高価な物がないか探しているのです。
日本では、ゴミについての学習を社会の授業で学びます。
日本では、そこら中にゴミが広がっているということがないから、ゴミの存在が見えなさすぎて、関心があまり向かないのが自然なことだと思います。
セネガルで生活し始めてからゴミがどこにいっても目につくので、私は考えるようになりました。
そして、ドラム缶は撤去されました。
ドラムの中に捨てられていたゴミは結局その他の場所に分散するだけなのですが。
ここでは歩いていれば、ゴミはそこら中に広がっています。
最近とても心に引っかかるのは、ゴミのことです。
