I enjoyed giving a 4th-grade math class.
I taught the unit of grams and milligrams to teach "weight".
In Senegal, teacher also have to teach "decigrams" and "centigrams" that Japanese usually don't use in Japan.
In schools in Japan, there are many math tools, but teachers in Senegal do not use tools, and they teach classes by only talking and writing on the blackboard.
It is impossible to understand the weight if they teach only numbers.
Then I had to prepare my own tools.
But I don't have tools to weigh things, and those items are not sold at the market.
So, how do I weigh something using daily use items?
It turns out that a bottle cap can be used to weigh things.
And if I know the amount, I would know the weight!
First, I wrapped salt in wrap to make a 10g weight.
Then I made lots of them for the children.
I thought, "When I want to weigh 1 g, a one-yen coin is 1 g!"
I looked for my luggage I brought from Japan and found 4 Japanese one yen coins.
And I found that a sheet of A4 paper weighs 4g.
After cutting it several times, I made a 0.1g weight, though I hardly felt the weight!
Children were very happy to have a few tools I made by myself because it is normal for kids not to use tools in their lessons.
I am going to Dakar, which is the capital. It is for the first time since I was there 3 months ago.
I'd like to feel the change of senses from the countryside (where I live) to the city (Dakar).
4年生の算数の授業を楽しむことができました。
「重さ」を教える授業で、gグラムとmgミリグラムを教えました。
セネガルでは、日本では使ったことがないdgデシグラム、cgセンチグラムも教えます。
日本の学校では算数の道具がたくさんありますが、セネガルの先生は道具を使わず、話して黒板に書いて教える授業ばかりしています。
数字だけ教えても、重さのことを理解するのは不可能です。
そうなると、道具は私が自分で用意するしかありませんでした。
そもそも物の重さをはかる道具を持っていませんし、売っていません。
さて、身近な物を使って物の重さをはかる方法は？
なんとペットボトルのキャップで、大体の量をはかれることが分かりました。
そして量がわかれば、重さも分かる！
まず、ラップで塩を包んで10gのおもりができました。
それを子供たち用に大量生産しました。
「1gといったら1円玉だ！」と思って
私の日本から持ってきた荷物をガサゴソ探したらセネガルでは使わない日本の1円玉をなんと4枚発見！
A4の紙が１枚４gということが分かりました。
何回か切って、（ほとんどおもさを感じないけど）0.1gのおもりが完成！
セネガルでは道具を使わない授業が普通なので、道具を少し用意しただけでも子供はすごく喜んでくれました。
研修のため、３ヶ月ぶりに首都ダカールへ行きます。
田舎（私の住むところ）→都会（ダカール）へ行ったときの自らの感覚の変化を感じたいです。
