In December, watermelons are still in season in Senegal!
The daytime temperature is more than 35 degrees Celsius.
This is a story when I lived in Tokyo. I stood in front of a small station.
Three Japanese men, I thought they were 50s, were talking to each other at the roundabout in front of the station. A foreigner approached them and asked for directions.
I happened to be nearby.
The foreigner was trying to ask for directions somehow using gestures.
The Japanese men replied in a loud voice like this.
"You need to study Japanese more!"
I remember it clearly because I was shocked that there was people could reply such a word like that with cold attitude.
In Senegal, there are people listen to me warmly, and also on the contrary, there are people don't want to talk to me because I'm not a fluent speaker in foreign language.
There are both of positions even in Senegal.
I am really understanding the feelings of the foreigners who were in Tokyo at that time.
I'm feeling a great gratitude to those who accept me.
It makes a difference in people's attitude whether people do imagine the other people's position or not.
When I was walking on the street and I said to him, "You have great muscles!"
And he said, "Take a picture of my muscle training! and I snapped a picture.
He said that he are focusing on the part to be trained by looking at the muscles when he turned his face to the side.

昼は35℃を超えています。
東京に住んでいたとき、とある小さな駅前での話。
駅前のロータリーに50代くらいの日本人の男の人が3人話しこんでいました。
そこへ、外国人の男の人が近づいていき、道を尋ねました。
たまたまその近くに私はいました。
外国の方は、ジェスチャーを使って何とか道を聞こうとしていました。
日本人の男の人は、こんな風に大声で返していました。
「もうちょっと日本語勉強しないと！」
この時こんな冷たい態度で言葉を返す人がいるのか！と衝撃だったのではっきりと覚えているのです。
セネガルではというと、温かく耳を傾けてくれる人、
また反対に、
話が通じないと言って取り合ってくれない人、
どちらの立場の人もいます。
私はあの時東京にいた外国人の気持ちが今は痛いほど分かります。
私を受け入れてくれる人へは、感謝の気持ちをすごく感じています。
相手の立場を想像するかしないかで態度に差がでます。
道端で「筋肉すごいね！」と言ったら、「俺の筋トレを撮れ！」と言われてパシャッ。
顔を横へ向けるのは筋肉を見て鍛える部分を意識しているとのこと。
これぞ彫刻級。
