The first semester is done.
It starts the winter break.
Now is in December, but I'm still taking showers with cold water in my house.
I'm feeling cold, but only cold water comes out from the faucet because it doesn't have a funtion to warm water, so I just keep using cold water.
It is still 35°C around noon.
So it doesn't feel like December of Japan.
Today, when I was walking along the long long sandy road, a taxi drove by me.
I decided to take the taxi because I was exhausted.
I stopped the taxi by pointing my finger and saying Pousou. This is a Senegalese way for stopping cars.
Once getting into the taxi, he told me, "I often see you around here."
I thought that "Japanese people stand out around here."
He took me home by taxi and when I was about to pay the fee, he said, "No, you don't have to pay me."
I felt bad because I had never met him.
He said, "It's Sama harit, so it's no problem today."
I asked him his name and he said goodbye.
I asked him his name and I got off the taxi.
"Thank you so much, see you again!", I said.
"Sama harit" means "my friend" in Wolof language.
It is a Wolof word used by Senegalese.
The word "Sama harit" is a very common word in conversation.
In French, ”mon ami.”
In Spanish, "amigo."
In English, "my friend."
All words mean "my friend."
All of these words are often used when I am in foreign countries.
There is a case like that I meet someone for the first time and I feel that the person is a good person. And he would say, "You are my friend!"
On the other hand, sometimes I meet someone and the person try to scam me. And he would say, "You are my friend!"
There are good ways and bad ways to use the same word.
Today's "sama harit" sounded special to me.
Children lined up in front of their classrooms in the morning.
They come to school every day in brightly colored Senegalese clothes, I feel that is in an event.

これから冬休みに入ります。
12月ですが、私の家では相変わらず水シャワー継続中。
冷たく感じ始めましたが、給湯機能はなく、水しか出ないのでそのまま浴びています。昼はいまだに35℃あります。
というわけで、日本の師走（しわす）感はありません。
今日も長い長い砂道を歩いていると、めったに通らない所に1台のタクシーが通りました。たまにはタクシーの力を借りようと思って、指を差しプスゥーと言ってそのタクシーを止めました。（セネガル流、車の止め方）
タクシーに乗った後、運転手に
「この辺であなたをよく見かけるよ。」と言われました。
（日本人はやはり目立つんだな）と思いました。
家まで送ってもらい、お金を払おうとすると
「いや、お金はいいよ。」と彼は言いました。
知り合いならまだしも、初対面だから悪いと思い払おうとしたとき、
「サマハリットだから今回はいいよ。」
と言いました。
私は彼の名前を聞いて、車を降りました。
「ほんとありがとう、またね！」
「サマハリット」＝ 私の友達、という意味があります。
セネガル人の使うウォロフ語です。
このサマハリットという言葉は会話によく登場する言葉なのです。
フランス語で、モナミ。
スペイン語で、アミーゴ。
英語で、マイフレンド。
全て「私の友達」という意味です。
どれも海外に行くとよく言われる言葉です。
初対面で気が合って、
「あなたは私の友達だ！」
と言われる時もあれば、
「あなたは私の友達だ！」
と寄ってきて、詐欺をもちかけられそうな時もあります。
同じ言葉でも、良い使われ方、悪い使われ方があるのです。
今日の「サマハリット」は良い響きでした。
朝、教室前に並ぶ子供。
行事かなと思うほど、鮮やかな服装のセネガル服を毎日来て学校に通います。
