I am currently studing Wolof language at school while staying with a host family.
The reason is not only to learn but also Senegalese customs and culture.
There's no washing machine, which is unlike Japan.
I rely on only my hands!
I have to bring my clothes I already used to school, and wash them in a large bucket. Because we all volunteers spend most of the day at school.
I first fill water, and throw in some detergent, and do the laundry by hand.

After that, I hung them on a long string outside to dry like movies of Ghibli works.
It dries well on sunny days.
I need a strong grip to wash and wring clothes by hand.
Unlike the washing machine, the drying process goes smoothly because I can hung clothes right after waching. There is no waiting time. That's why I like this quick process!
When I got home, I heard birds cheeping and found five birds in front of my room.
I asked to a member of the host family, "What are they?"
The answer was
"We grow them big before we can eat them deliciously."

「洗濯」
日本のように全自動洗濯機はありません。
駆使するのは己の手です。
私は1日のほとんどを学校で過ごすので、洗濯物を家から学校へ運び、学校で洗濯をすることになっています。
ホームステイの家から洗濯物を持っていって、水をためて、粉洗剤を投入し洗います。

ジブリに出てきそうなヒモが横にビヨーンと伸びたところに干しています。
晴れている日はよく乾きます。
手で洗ってしぼるので、握力を使います。
洗濯機と違って待ち時間がなく、スムーズに干すところまでできて、意外と好きです。
家に帰ってピヨピヨと聞こえたと思ったら、部屋の前に５羽いました。
家の人に聞くと、
「大きく育ててから、おいしく食べるんだよ。」
って。
