The 11th of August was a public holiday called Mountain Day in Japan.
I had been thinking that I'd like to climb a mountain if Senegal had mountains. Because I used to climb mountains in Japan every year. But it seems not to be mountains in Senegal.
After I arrived at Louga town, I joined an event, which is chasing pigs, at a house of a christian.
Basically, more than 95% of Senegalese are Muslims and they don't eat pork at all.
But few Christians exist here even in Senegal and they eat pork.
Chasing pigs.
As the name is, I chased pigs.
And I could catch a pig among them thanks to an advice, "Grab the legs!"
I succeeded in grabbing the leg of one of them in a few minutes. The pig had such a strong power as the same as 12-year-old child.
After that, I saw the "slaughter" in front of me. Using three kinds of knives, a Senegalese friend did it.
Passing just a few minutes, the pig was cut into small peaces.
Afterwards, I took the pig at home and cooked it with other volunteers, and ate it together.
That scene of slaughter was what I had never seen in Japan.
I was feeling the body temperture of the pig which was alive till just before a few minutes.
It was a good experience for me to see it.
I really appreciate having lives.
日本では「山の日」が過ぎました。
私が毎年登っていた山の頂きに登るチャンスはセネガルではなさそうです。
任地ルーガに来て、キリスト教徒のセネガル人と協力して「ブタ追い」をしました。
だけど、少数のキリスト教徒は、豚を食べます。
ブタ追い。
名前の通り、ブタを追いかけました。
「足をつかめ！」
とアドバイスがあったので、数分で集団の中にいる一頭の足をつかむのを捕まえたのです。小学校高学年の子と腕相撲するくらいの力のある強い脚力でした。
その後、目の前で「屠殺（とさつ）」する様子を見ました。
3本のナイフを使って、セネガル人の友達が行いました。
さっきまで生きていたブタが、ものの数分で部位ごとに切り分けられました。
その後、家へ持ち帰り、他のボランティアと協力して料理し、みんなで美味しく頂きました。
日本では見ることのない光景が目の前にありました。
少し前まで生きていたブタの体温を感じながらそれを見ていました。
私は良い経験をしたと思っています。
命を頂きました。
