September starts tomorrow.
Senegalese children are still in vacation mode as school starts in October.
This week, I went to the "Teacher Training Center" to greet my new colleagues.
When reading novels in Japan, I was not good at memorizing character names written in foreign names. Since The pronounciations of Senegalese names are totally for the first time, I try to remember them by calling them over and over.
I was surprised at the lectures at the teacher training center.
It was not the content of the lectures, but the fact that there are "strikes”!
To be honest, strike was not a familiar word to me, and to most Japanese.
Why is a strike here?
Apparently, the government doesn't smoothly pay the salaries to the teachers at the center. That's why proffesors don't give lectures.
To put it simply, there are lectures every day, but the teachers are on strike for days, so the students can't take lectures even if they come to the center and have to go home.
Recently, there was a day when only 2 proffesors out of more than 10 profs did not show up. I seems this kind of strikes happened fairly often through June, July, and August.
I thought it would be impossible to happen that the lectures lost for people who are going to be teachers in Japan.
There was a "gecko" in my house.
I found a gecko when I found feces in the kitchen. I first thought it was a mouse. This time the gecko was large, fully grown, and more than 10cm.
Gekos are good to eat pests, but it was moving through the kitchen at night, and they make a mess with their excrement.
I captured it with a bottle and let it go. It was a struggle because it moved faster than a cockroach in Senegal.
He would find a new house somewhere by now.

明日からセプテンバー。
セネガルの子供たちは、10月から学校が始まるのでまだまだ休みモード。
今週は、毎日配属先の教員養成センターへ行き、関係する人たちへあいさつ回りをしました。
日本で小説を読んでいた時、名前が横文字（外国人の名前）を覚えるのが苦手でした。
セネガル人の名前は初めて聞くような名前なので、何回も何回も名前で呼ぶ作戦で覚えています。
養成センターでの講義で驚いたこと。
それは、講義の中身ではなく「ストライキ」があるということ！
正直ストライキは私にとって馴染みがない言葉でした。
ここでいうストライキとは、
「教員養成センターの先生に払われる給料が政府からスムーズに支払われないので、
先生たちが講義をしない」ことをいいます。
だから、
本来、毎日講義があるはずなのですが、先生たちがストライキで学校に来ない日があるので、先生の卵である生徒は学校に来ても講義を受けることができず帰るしかない。
最近では、10人以上いる先生のうち2人しか来ない日があったそうです。
このストライキは6,7,8月にかけて結構あったそうです。
教員になる人の講義がなくなるって、日本ではあり得ないことだと思いました。
家には、「ヤモリ（家守）」がいました。
キッチンにフンが落ちていてネズミかと思っていたら、ヤモリを発見しました。
今回のヤモリは10㎝以上ある成長しきった大きいヤモリでした。
害虫を食べるのはいいけど、キッチンを夜な夜な超高速移動し、フンをしているので
ペットボトルで捕獲して逃がしました。
ゴキブリより速い動きなので、苦戦しました。
今頃どこかで新しい宿を見つけていることでしょう。
