I heard that a friend of mine who is an elementaly school teacher gave a class about "JOCV= Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers" at his classroom.
And I heard that that material is now included in textbooks as a content .
I first recognized JOCV when I was already a grown-up. I was 26 years old.
Until then, I had never thought about living abroad at all.
I started traveling abroad with my friends, I began to see how interesting foreign countries were.
Now, the things about volunteers are even in the textbooks children use in class.
This means that children can have a chance to think it while they are still in school.
I think it is a great opportunity for children to get information of overseas work. Because it would broaden the range of their career path.
"Knowing a little bit about what foreign coundtries are" is a big difference compared to "Not Knowing about it at all".
That is why I was glad to hear about my friend's class at his elementary school, and that students had the opportunity to learn about foreign countries.
On the way home, I was walking along a sandy road.
Three boys on a cart pulled by a donkey approached from behind .
I thought, "How can only kids ride this thing?"
When they would overtake me, the donkey stopped beside me.
The chinldren said, "If you are going in the same direction, do you get on?"
I didn't ask anything, but they gave me a ride to a place near my house.
The children were apparently carrying their lunch from afar, and they were holding the large bowl carefully.
It amazed me and made me smile when I came across such great children.
I thanked them, and said, "See you again!"
The children left.
I hope to see you again.

最近、小学校教員の友達がクラスで「青年海外協力隊」に関する授業をした、と連絡をもらいました。
今は、道徳の本に教材が載っているらしいです。
私が「青年海外協力隊」を知ったのは、大人になってから。
26歳の時です。
それまでは海外で生活したいと考えたことは一切ありませんでした。
私は、仲間と海外旅行に行くようになってから、
海外のおもしろさに目が向くようになりました。
今は、授業で使う本に載っているくらいなので、
子供が小学生のうちにふれるチャンスがあるということです。
小学校のうちから、海外での仕事に目がいくということは、
「進む道の幅が広がる」ので、とても良いことだと思います。
「ちょっとだけでも海外の感じを知ること」は、「海外について全く知らなかったこと」と比べると大きな差だと思います。
だから、友人の小学校での授業の話を聞いて、小学生が海外について知る機会があることがうれしかったです。
家までの帰り道、砂道を歩いていました。
少年3人が、ロバが引く荷台に乗って、後方から近づいてきました。
子供だけでよく乗りこなしているなぁと思いました。
追い越されるかな？と思ったとき、
ロバが私の横で止まりました。
「同じ方向なら乗っていきなよ！」
私は何も言っていないのに、家の近くまで乗せてくれました。
子供たちは、どうやら遠くから昼ご飯を運んでいたようで、大きい器を大事そうにおさえていました。
こんな気持ちの良い子供と巡り合うことができたことに驚かされ、笑顔になれました。
お礼を言うと、
「またね！」
と、爽やかに子供たちは去っていきました。
「また会いたいなぁ。」
と、爽やかな気持ちが残りました。
